Procaine is a local anesthetic.  Clinical commonly used its hydrochloride, also known as "novocaine".  White crystalline or crystalline powder, soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in chloroform.  Procaine Hcl can temporarily block the conduction of nerve fibers and has anesthetic effect.  Clinically,  it is mainly used for infiltration, spine and conduction anesthesia.   In addition to the central nervous system and cardiovascular system reactions caused by overdose, allergic reactions are occasionally seen, and skin allergy tests should be performed before medication.  Its metabolite p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) can weaken the antibacterial effect of sulfonamides.
