Pyrazinamide, whose molecular formula is C5H5N3O, is a medicine for treating tuberculosis with antibacterial and bactericidal effects. It has the strongest antibacterial activity at a pH of 5 to 5.5.

Application & Function

 

The structure of this product is similar to nicotinamide, and it can be sterilized when it enters the cell. Under the condition of low pH, it has strong anti-bacterial activity. This product is a first-line anti-tuberculosis drug and has no cross-resistance with other anti-tuberculosis drugs. Single use of this product is easy to produce drug resistance and needs to be combined with other anti-tuberculosis drugs.
It is used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs for tuberculosis that has not been treated with first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs (such as streptomycin, isoniazid, rifampicin and ethambutol). This product is only effective against mycobacteria. This product has been used as a second-line drug in the past, and is often used in retreatment patients who have failed other anti-tuberculosis drugs. A large number of clinical studies have shown that the short-term treatment program containing this product is suitable for initial treatment cases with positive sputum bacteria, and is generally used for 2 to 3 months. This program can significantly reduce the recovery rate of sputum bacteria after the treatment is over. This product has been recognized as one of the components of the triple or quadruple regimen in short-course chemotherapy.
