Dibucaine is a quinolin derivative and amino amide with anesthetic activity.Dibucaine reversibly binds to and inactivates sodium channels in the neuronal cell membrane.Inhibition of sodium channels prevents the depolarization of nerve cell membranes and inhibits subsequent propagation of impulses along the course of the nerve, thereby limiting the excitation of nerve endings. This results in loss of sensation.
Cinchocaine is a monocarboxylic acid amide that is the 2-(diethylamino)ethyl amide of 2-butoxyquinolin-4-carboxylic acid. One of the most potent and toxic of the long-acting local anesthetics, its parenteral use was restricted to spinal anesthesia. It is now generally only used (usually as the hydrochloride) in creams and ointments and in suppositories for temporary relief of pain and itching associated with skin and anorectal conditions. It has a role as a topical anaesthetic. It is a monocarboxylic acid amide, a tertiary amino compound and an aromatic ether.
Dibucaine is an anesthetic, or numbing medicine.Dibucaine topical (for the skin) is used to treat minor pain and itching caused by burns, insect bites, sunburn, or other skin irritations.Dibucaine topical is also used to relieve rectal pain and itching caused by hemorrhoids or other rectal irritations.
Application & Function
1. Dibucaine is used to relieve pain and itching caused by conditions such as sunburn or other minor burns, insect bites or stings, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, minor cuts, or scratches.
2. Dibucaine belongs to a group of medicines known as topical local anesthetics.Dibucaine deadens the nerve endings in the skin. Dibucaine does not cause unconsciousness as general anesthetics do when used for surgery.
3. Dibucaine is used to treat symptoms of hemorrhoids or rectal irritation.
