Thymol is the main monoterpene occurring in essential oils isolated from plants belonging to the Lamiaceae family, and other plants such as those belonging to the Verbenaceae, Scrophulariaceae, Ranunculaceae and Apiaceae families. Thymol has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal effects.

1.Thymol has been used in alcohol solutions and in dusting powders for the treatment of tineaor ringworm infections, and was used in the United States to treat hookworm nfections.
2.Thymol has been used to successfully control varroa mites and prevent fermentation and the growth mold in bee colonies,Thymol is also used as a rapidly degrading, non-persisting pesticide.
3.Thymol can also be used as a medical disinfectant and general purpose disinfectant.
