Trimecaine for the white needle-like crystal or crystalline powder; odorless, bitter and numb. Soluble in water and hot ethanol, slightly soluble in alcohol and so on.It is local anesthetic and cardial antiarrhythmic. It used in epidural postoperative analgesia after major urological procedures.

Application & Function

 

Trimecaine HCl has two main applications. The first is local anesthesia (local, osmotic, local mucosa and inhalation, spinal cord and Bier vein). In the mixture its concentration is 0.4 to 4%, and in some cases (for example, in dentistry). Another area is the prevention and treatment of arrhythmias in myocardial infarction and cardiac surgery. It is also used for the prevention of sympathetic reactions during tracheal intubation.
Like other local anesthetics belonging in the amide group Trimecaine HCl decreases the cell membrane permeability, causes depolarization and shortens the action potential.Anesthetic effect starts in 15 minutes and remains 60-90 minutes. Its biological half-life is ca. 90 minutes. 10% of trimecaine is excreted unchanged (90% as its metabolites). It passes through the hematoencephalic and placental barriers.
