Minoxidil, also known as Long Pressure Ding or Min Le Ding, has a molecular formula and relative molecular weight of C9H15N5O=209.25. It is a white or off white crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water , slightly soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble, and soluble in glacial acetic acid. It can directly act on the blood vessel wall, dilate small arteries, reduce peripheral resistance, lower blood pressure, and increase heart rate and cardiac output. However, its antihypertensive effect is more significant and long-lasting than that of hydrazine
Minoxidil directly dilates small arteries, thereby lowering blood pressure, but the specific mechanism is unclear. This product does not dilate small veins. After the reduction of peripheral vascular resistance, it causes reflexive heart rate acceleration and increased cardiac output. After hypotension, the activity of renin increases, causing water and sodium retention. This product does not interfere with vascular reflex, so there is no occurrence of orthostatic hypotension. Minoxidil is a commonly used and effective drug for treating hair loss, but its pharmacological effects and target cells are not very clear. Recent studies have shown that minoxidil may promote hair growth through various pathways.
Application&Function
Minoxidil is an oral medication used clinically to lower blood pressure, also known as long-acting drugs, piperidine diamine, antihypertensive drugs, and minoxidil. It belongs to the potassium channel opener and can directly relax vascular smooth muscle. It has a strong small artery dilation effect, reducing peripheral resistance, vasodilation, and blood pressure, without affecting volume vessels, thus promoting venous return. At the same time, due to reflex regulation and positive frequency effects, it can increase cardiac output and heart rate, but does not cause orthostatic hypotension. Used clinically for the treatment of refractory hypertension and renal hypertension. It can also be used for severe hypertension with poor effect on other antihypertensive drugs, but it needs to be combined with diuretics to avoid water and sodium retention. Combined with β receptor blockers, it can increase its efficacy and reduce adverse reactions. Long term use of minoxidil may have a side effect where body hair, such as arm hair, may slightly increase with continued use of the medication. But generally within an acceptable range.
