The function of D-ribose
(1) The role of heart failure is that the ATP and nucleotide pool contents in the heart will gradually decrease, and their levels are closely related to the degree of failure. Insufficient energy supply is considered an important cause of heart failure. Ribose can accelerate ATP duplication and salvage synthesis pathways; To supplement ATP, numerous clinical trials have shown that ribose can improve cardiac function in patients with ischemic failure. However, Kiterie et al. did not find any improvement effect of ribose on non ischemic chronic heart failure mice in animal experiments, and the reason is unknown. (
2) Wang Yakun et al. studied the effect of D-ribose on the recovery of heart and skeletal muscle function during exercise and recovery in weight-bearing swimming rats. They found that D-ribose significantly increased the synthesis rate of ATP in the gastrocnemius muscle, allowing the body to fully recover the ATP consumed during exercise within 72 hours. Another study found that during intermittent high-intensity exercise, ribose did not exhibit the effect of restoring ATP.
(3) The effect of D-ribose on blood sugar is that D-ribose is a monosaccharide that increases secretion. Therefore, the intake of ribose can cause a temporary decrease in blood sugar. It is generally recommended to consume ribose with meals, but its short-term hypoglycemic effect cannot be ignored. Therefore, people with low blood sugar should follow the advice of a doctor when taking it.
