Tirzepatide was developed by Lilly to improve the blood sugar control of adult type 2 diabetes patients. It is the first double agonist of glucose-dependent insulin-promoting polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. According to its SURPASS series of studies, compared with placebo, the highest dose of 15mg can further reduce the absolute value of HbA1C by 1.6%. In addition to the hypoglycemic effect, the SURBOUNT-1 study on obese patients without diabetes showed that the highest dose of 15mg Tirzepatide could significantly reduce the average weight of patients by 22.5% (24kg).

It is a double agonist of glucose-dependent insulin-promoting polypeptide (GP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 () receptor. It integrates the two kinds of insulin-promoting effects into a single molecule, and activates the hormone receptor intestinal glucagon receptor involved in blood glucose control through a dual mechanism. It is the first new generation diabetes drug launched with the approval of the US FDA as a "first in Cass" drug by subcutaneous injection once a week to control blood glucose
