Frusemide (frusemide/INN/BAN/) and frusemide (former BAN), also known as furanilic acid and frusemide, are loop diuretics widely used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and edema. It is also used to prevent horse racing nosebleeds during RACES.
Application&Function
Frusemide, sold under the brand name Lasix among others, is a medication used to treat fluid build-up due to heart failure, liver scarring, or kidney disease. It may also be used for the treatment of high blood pressure. Frusemide is primarily used for the treatment of hypertension and edema. It is the first-line agent in most people with edema caused by congestive heart failure. It is also used for hepaticcirrhosis, renal impairment, nephrotic syndrome, in adjunct therapy for cerebral or pulmonary edema where rapiddiuresis is required (IV injection), and in the management of severe hypercalcemia in combination with adequate rehydration.
