There are two main sources of thymol: one is extracted from natural products such as thyme oil, beef tallow oil, and basil oil, and the other is artificially synthesized. Due to limited natural resources and high extraction costs and environmental pressures, the main method currently used is the artificial synthesis of thymol.
Thymol has the characteristics ic drugs, with strong bactericidal and preservative effects on fungi and actinomycetes, weak effects on gram-negative bacteria, stronger bactericidal power, less irritating to skin and mucous membranes, and toxicity about 1/10; Has a strong sensory numbing effect. Oral thymol can be completely absorbed by the intestine, and about 50% of the metabolic products in the body, which combine with glucuronic acid and sulfuric acid in the form of musk quinone, are excreted through urine.
