Orlistat is a long-acting and potent specific gastrointestinal lipase inhibitor, which appears as a white or off white powder at room temperature, insoluble in water, and easily soluble in ethanol. It inactivates enzymes by forming covalent bonds with the active serine sites of gastric and pancreatic lipases in the stomach and small intestine lumen.
