Azilsartan and chlorthalidone combination is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Azilsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, azilsartan relaxes the blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.

 

Azilsartan kamedoxomil has a significant effect on lowering blood pressure. A six week experiment involving 1291 patients compared the effects of 40 mg, 80 mg of azilsartan kamedoxomil, 40 mg of olmesartan kamedoxomil (Benical®, developed by First Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.) or 320 mg of valsartan. The results showed that 40 mg of azilsartan kamedoxomil could reduce blood pressure by 13.4 mmHg, while 80 mg of azilsartan kamedoxomil was 14.5 mmHg 40 mg Benicar is 12mmHg and 320 g valsartan is 10.2mmHg.
