This product is an important steroidal sapogenin and an important raw material for semi-synthetic steroids. Diosgenin undergoes ring-opening, oxidation, hydrolysis and elimination reactions to prepare pregnenolone. After oximation, rearrangement and hydrolysis, dehydroepiandrosteron can be obtained. These intermediates have important value in the production of drugs.
This product is mainly used as medical raw material, and is the raw material for manufacturing more than 20 kinds of steroid hormones such as cortison, testosteron, progesteron and oral contraceptives. It can also be used to make detergents, emulsifiers, foaming agents, preservatives, etc.
