Naphazoline Hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt form of naphazoline, animidazole derivative and a direct-acting sympathomimetic amine with vasoconstrictive properties. Upon ocular administration, naphazoline hydrochloride exerts its effect by acting on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the arterioles of the conjunctiva to produce vasoconstriction, resulting in decreased conjunctival congestion and diminished itching, irritation and redness.

Application&Function

1.Hypersensitivity to naphazoline
2.Patients taking MAO inhibitors can experience a severe hypertensive crisis if given a sympathomimetic drug such as naphazoline HCl
3.Use in infants and children can result in central nervous system depression, leading to coma and marked reduction in body temperature
4.Should be used with caution in patients with severe cardiovascular disease including cardiac arrhythmia and in patients with diabetes, especially those with a tendency toward diabetic ketoacidosis
5.Drug interactions can occur with anaesthetics that sensitize the myocardium to sympathomimetics.
6.Exercise caution when applying prior to use of phenylephrine.
7.Extended use may cause rhinitis medicamentosa, a condition of rebound nasal congestion
