Econazole (commonly used as the nitrate salt) is an antifungal medication of the imidazol class,white crystalline powder, very slightly soluble in water, Slightly soluble in most organic solvents. It is used topically in the treatment of dermatomycoses due to a wide variety of fungi, such as athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, and pityriasis. It is also used vaginally in the treatment of vaginal candidosis.

Application & Function

Econazole is a broad-spectrum imidazole antifungal agent, which can not only interfere with the biosynthesis of fungal cell membranes, but also inhibit the synthesis of ribonucleic acid.  The mechanism of action is the same as that of ketoconazole, and the antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of miconazole.  It has antibacterial action against the genus Nemiococcus, pigmentomyces, Coccidioides, histoplasmosis, Sporotrichophyton, etc.  It also has antibacterial activity against trichophyton trichophyton, etc., and has poor antibacterial action against Aspergillus, Sporotrichia Schenckii, some rubrosporaceae, Mucor, etc.  Clinical for the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis, vaginal candidiasis;  It can also be used for ringworm of the body, jock itch, tinea pedis, tinea versicolor, etc.
Pharmacology and toxicology: This product is an antifungal drug, effective against Candida albicans, coccidioides, cryptococcus neoformans, histoplasma capsulatus, blastomyces dermatitis and trichophyton.  The mechanism of action is to inhibit the synthesis of fungal cell membrane and affect its metabolic process.
