This product is the precursor of acyclovir, namely the hydrochloride of acyclovir and valine ester. After oral absorption, it can be rapidly and completely transformed into acyclovir. In the virus-infected cells, it is activated by deoxyglucoside kinase and further phosphorylated into triphosphate.
