Sulbactam sodium is white or off-white crystalline powder,is a β-lactamase inhibitor that has similar characteristics.  Sulbactam sodium is an irreversible competitive β-lactamase inhibitor, which can inhibit β-lactamase produced by both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (except pseudomonas aeruginosa).  After irreversible reaction with the enzyme, the enzyme is inactivated, and the enzyme activity cannot be restored after the inhibitor is removed.

Application & Function

Sulbactam is a semi-synthetic β-lactamase inhibitor, potent and irreversible inhibition of penicillinase and cephalosporinase.  Its antibacterial activity is very weak, so it is rarely used alone, and it is often used in combination with other β-lactam antibiotics, which has obvious synergistic effect and is effective against most drug-resistant bacteria.  The compound preparation sulperidone with cefoperazone is used to treat the infection of drug-resistant bacteria.   Apply to the respiratory system, urinary system, skin and soft tissue infections.
