Cisapride is a gastrointestinal prokinetic drug. It is a benzamide compound that does not have anti-dopaminergic properties or direct cholinergic properties. Its mechanism of action is different from metoclopramide and domperidone, and does not affect dopamine receptors.But through different receptors of serotonin to act on the posterior end of the muscle nerve plexus in the wall of the gastrointestinal organs, which promotes the release of acetylcholine in the mural muscles (in number and time), and stimulates the entire digestive system organs to exert a prokinetic effect. But it does not affect the submucosal nerve plexus and does not change the mucosal secretion. It is a prokinetic drug.

Application & Function

Cisapride is a gastroprokinetic useful in the treatment of reflux esophagitis, constipation, and a variety of gastro-intestinal motility disorders.Its novel mechanism of action is thought to involve the enhancement of acetylcholine release in the mysenteric plexus of the gut. It is reportedly devoid of CNS and cardiac side-effects.
This product can enhance the contraction and peristalsis of human esophagus, stomach and duodenum, improve the coordination function of gastric antrum and duodenum, and prevent gastric-esophagus and duodenal reflux.  Strengthen the emptying of the stomach and duodenum, and promote the peristalsis of the large intestine and small intestine.  Mainly used for gastrointestinal motility disorders, such as functional dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, chronic constipation, bile reflux gastritis, neonatal vomiting, non-ulcer dyspepsia, etc.  Secondly, it can also be used for non-gastrointestinal motility disorders, such as diabetic neurogenic bladder, gallbladder contraction disorder and so on.
