Amlexanox is an orally-active antiasthmatic agent useful in the treatment of bronchial asthma and allergy-related sinus disorders.  The therapeutic effect of amlexanox appears to be attributed to its inhibitory actions on leukohiene D4, PAF and histamine.

Application & Function

Amlexanox is an anti-inflammatory and anti allergic immunomodulator.  It is used in the treatment of recurrent aphthous (ulcer) and several inflammatory diseases (in Japan).
1.  It has an inhibitory effect on histamine free reaction, an inhibitory effect on leukotriene production, and an anti-leukotriene effect, resulting in an anti-asthma effect.  It is used for the treatment of bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis.
2.  Used to treat oral ulcers.
