Sulfamethoxypyridazine was found to be highly effective in preliminary studies of rats infected with pneumocystis carinii. Sulfamethoxypyridazine has also been found to be as effective as sulfamethoxazole in treating rats infected with pneumocystis carinii at a dose of 1 mg/kg bw. In mouse animal models, Sulfamethoxypyridazine is effective against pneumocystis carinii, with ED50s of 0.06 mg/kg and 0.08 mg/kg/day based on Giemsa and silver staining scores, respectively. Sulfamethoxypyridazine was significantly more effective against pneumocystis carinii in mouse animal models at doses of 0.1 mg/kg/day or 0.3 mg/kg/day than at 0.47 mg / 1000 Chemicalbook g/day. In goats, the biological half-life of Sulfamethoxypyridazine after im and sc administration was 11.0 h and 13.7 h, respectively. In goats, the systemic effectiveness of Sulfamethoxypyridazine after im and sc administration was 68.6%and58.7%, respectively. In goats, the distribution and elimination half-lives of Sulfamethoxypyridazine were 0.1 h and 6.28 h, respectively.
