Clozapine is an atypical antipsychotic. It is mainly used for schizophrenia that does not improve after using other antipsychotic drugs. Patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder may reduce the incidence of suicidal behavior. It is more effective than typical antipsychotics and works well for those who are effective. The recurrence rate is low, patients are better tolerated. There is some evidence that clozapine may reduce the abuse of drugs in people with schizophrenia.
For schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease, this may be better than other antipsychotics.
Clozapine is not recommended for treating behavioral problems in people with Alzheimer's disease.
