Function
Sulfadiazine is an organic compound whose molecular formula is C10H10N4O2S. It is white or off-white crystal or powder, odorless, tasteless, and gradually darkens when exposed to light. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in boiling water (1:60), slightly soluble in ethanol and acetone, insoluble in chloroform and ether, soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide solution or ammonia solution. Melting point 252 ~ 256 ºC (decomposition at the same time). Its sodium salt is white crystalline powder, odorless and slightly bitter in taste. When exposed to light, it becomes brown. When placed in humid air for a long time, it will slowly absorb carbon dioxide and separate out sulfadiazine.
