Function
Valacyclovir is a precursor drug to acyclovir, the hydrochloride salt from which acyclovir forms esters with valine. Its oral absorption can be rapidly and completely converted into acyclovir, which is activated by deoxyriboside kinase in virus-infected cells and further phosphorylated into triphosphate, which terminates the replication of virus by inhibiting DNA polymerase and binding to the growing DNA strand under the action of DNA polymerase, thus achieving antiviral effects. It has a wide antiviral spectrum and has a strong inhibitory effect on herpes zoster virus, herpes simplex virus, EBV and cytomegalovirus with remarkable efficacy.
Application
It is indicated for viral infections such as herpes simplex, varicella, herpes zoster, incipient and recurrent genital herpes, hepatitis, viral meningitis, etc. It can also be used to prevent viral infections in patients with immune impairment and immunosuppressive therapy such as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and organ transplant patients. It can be used for all indications of acyclovir (e.g. viral hepatitis B, systemic herpes zoster, etc.) primary genital herpes, herpes zoster under the guidance of a physician.
