1. Lapatinib (CAS 231277-92-2) is a small molecule kinase inhibitor that is used in the treatment of certain types of breast cancer. It works by inhibiting the activity of two proteins that are involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells: epidermal grow th fact or receptor (EGFR) and human epidermal growth fac tor receptor 2 (HER2).

The main function of Lapatinib is to block the tyrosine kinase activity of EGFR and HER2 receptors, which are often overexpressed in breast cancer cells, leading to uncontrolled growth and proliferation of cancer cells. By inhibiting the activity of these receptors, Lapatinib can slow down or stop the growth of cancer cells, thus helping to treat breast cancer.
3. Lapatinib is indicated in combination with capecitabine for the treatment of advanced or metastatic breast cancer with prior treatment including anthracycline, paclitaxel, trastuzumab (Herceptin) and ErbB-2 overexpression.
