Tropicamide is an anticholinergic agent. At room temperature, it is a white crystalline powder and is odorless. It is slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in ethanol,sulfuric acid and . It can block the excitement of iris sphincter and ciliary muscle induced by acetylcholine.

Tropicamide can be used as an anticholinergic agent with mydriasis and ciliary muscle anesthesia. Its effect is fast and short. It is the first choice for mydriasis in ophthalmology. It is used for mydriatic examination of the fundus, optometry, and iris inflammation.
