Application&Function
1. Reducing agent. Selectively reduce fatty ketones and aldehydes into hydrocarbons, reduce enylamine into amines,ketones into ethers, Mannich bases into methyl compounds. Used with formaldehyde to methylate an amine or hydrazine. Reduction of alkyl iodide and p-toluene sulfonate into hydrocarbons and sulfoxide into sulfide in HMPT. It is also used for reducing amination.
2. Sodium cyanoborohydride is used as a mild selective reduction agent in modern organic synthesis. It can reduce imines, ammonium salts, oxime and oxime derivatives, hydrazone and enamine, and can reduce the oxidation of carbonyl group through sulfonic acid hydrazone; Can reduce aldehydes, ketones, polarized alkenes, alkyl halides, epoxides, allyl ester groups.
