Sulfadiazine is an antibiotic. Used together with pyrimethamine, it is the treatment of choice for toxoplasmosis. It is a second line treatment for otitis media, prevention of rheumatic fever, chancroid, chlamydia and infections by Haemophilus influenzae. It is taken by mouth.
Sulfadiazine is an organic compound with the formula C10H10N4O2S, which is white or white like crystal or powder, odorless, tasteless, and gradually darkens when exposed to light. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in boiling water (1:60) melting point 252 ~ 256ºC (at the same time decomposition). Its sodium salt is white crystalline powder, odorless, slightly bitter taste. Gradual brown in light. In the humid air for a long time, it slowly absorbs carbon dioxide and precipitates sulfadiazine.
Sulfadiazine is mainly used for sensitive meningitis Neisseria meningitis caused by the treatment of patients. Can also be used
