Isavuconazole is a new triazole currently undergoing phase III clinical trials. This compound has shown in vitro activity against a large number of clinical important yeasts and molds including Asperg illus spp., Fusarium spp., Scedosporium spp., Candida spp., the Zygomycetes and Cryptococcus spp.
Similar to other antifungal agents, isavuconazole destroys fungal cell membrane formation by inhibiting ergosterol biosynthesis.     The accumulation of toxic methylsterol affects the structural stability and integrity of fungal cell membrane, and changes its function, eventually leading to fungal death.
